Overview:
Rynse, a managed services program for fleet care in government and enterprise organizations, has partnered with Anne Arundel County, MD. The County faced challenges maintaining its fleet, with limited access to car wash vendors, difficulty tracking vehicle services, and a lack of spending oversight across 30+ departments. Rynse addressed these issues by expanding vendor access, implementing service and activity tracking tools, and introducing systems to monitor spending and fraud.
Challenges:
Anne Arundel County is one of Maryland’s largest counties, home to approximately 600,000 residents and covering about 600 square miles. With over 30 departments in the fleet program, Anne Arundel County struggled with limited car wash availability, budget tracking, and fraud monitoring. The County previously had its own car wash on-site, which went out of service. Then, the County brought in a mobile wash service once per month, but the frequency wasn’t enough to properly maintain the fleet. On-site washes were difficult to manage, as they required all vehicles to be present simultaneously, and often incurred high service costs and fees.
Solutions:
Rynse expanded the County’s car wash access from a single vendor to 71 convenient vendors across the region. This provided relief to the County’s fleet, which frequently travels throughout the area, yet requires regular washing.
For example, Sheriff’s Office deputies spend significant time on the road. In any weather, the fleet must maintain a polished appearance, especially when showcasing vehicles at community events and parades.
The Sheriff’s Office commented on the impact of expanded wash locations:
“With Rynse, the best thing is there are so many car washes within the county that all the deputies can use, which makes it very convenient for them,” said Captain Robert Corcoran, Commander of the Bureau of Administration for Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office. “It's definitely a more convenient way to keep up the cleanliness of any car…the amount of car washes available just in our county alone is very good.”
Impact:
Rynse’s solution helped Anne Arundel County improve access to car washes, track spending, and monitor fraud:
- Benefits of the partnership include access to 70+ vendor locations:
- Before partnering with Rynse, sheriffs were limited to one car wash location, often causing long detours from their patrol areas. Now, they can access a wide network of car washes throughout the county.
- Anne Arundel County sheriffs frequently attend parades and community events, where clean, presentable vehicles are essential. Rynse offers convenient last-minute washes nearby, keeping vehicles polished even when it rains before big events.
- Spending control and fraud monitoring features include:
- Customizable spending limits on Rynse cards help manage strict budgets.
- Automatic invoices make it easy for supervisors to track usage and prevent overspending or abuse.
- Pricing variations across wash locations are tracked for full transparency.
