Overview:
The City of Fontana, California, the second-largest city in San Bernardino County and home to over 220,000 residents, manages a large fleet spread across 43 square miles. With only one car wash location available for its 375-vehicle fleet, drivers often had to travel long distances to keep vehicles clean.
Challenges:
Prior to working with Rynse, the City of Fontana worked with a local car wash vendor that operated three locations. But after an ownership change, only one wash location remained available, meaning drivers often wasted time traveling across town.
Adding to the challenge, the wash location’s system often failed to log vehicles properly, causing administrative headaches and delays. When the contract ended, the City went to bid, hoping for a more reliable solution with more locations.
Solutions:
When the City of Fontana learned about Rynse’s wash offerings, they cancelled their RFP and instead used Rynse’s Sourcewell contract. This allowed the City to streamline procurement, secure competitive government pricing, and avoid repeating the formal bid process each year.
Now, the City can use Rynse as its sole car wash solution:
“Sourcewell is going to save a lot of time on everything, because I don’t have to go through formal bids. I can just renew annually with Rynse as my sole source.”
— Eric Ninemire, Fleet Supervisor, City of Fontana, CA
The City expanded its available wash locations from 1 to 10+. Locations are strategically spaced throughout the city, making it easy for drivers to clean vehicles on their routes. Despite managing more locations, Rynse’s streamlined billing reduced administrative workload by consolidating all charges into a single, itemized invoice that can be filtered by vendor or location.

Technical issues with logging vehicles have also disappeared. Rynse’s wash partners use an automated gate system that instantly reads license plates or RFID tags to log vehicles as they enter. As a bonus, Rynse’s fleets also gain access to priority lanes to expedite the process:
“From my personal experience, every time I pull my vehicle in there, it's nice to be able to go into the members’ lane. The gate automatically opens, and I pull right through.”
— Eric Ninemire, Fleet Supervisor, City of Fontana, CA
The Impact:
✅ Sourcewell unlocked simple procurement and competitive government pricing
✅ No more technical difficulties: priority lanes and automatic gates log vehicles instantly
✅ From 1 wash location to 10+ options, giving drivers easy access along their routes
✅ Easy annual renewal: skip the time-consuming formal bid process each year
Looking Ahead:
Rynse continues to partner with the City of Fontana to expand access to fleet services. Next, the City is exploring Rynse’s fuel management solution, which simplifies purchases, tracking, and reporting, just like the car wash program.
